Introducing Our Family Weekend Program – Everything You Need to Know

Research shows that family involvement in the recovery process can: improve the effectiveness of treatment, decrease problems associated with addiction, boost motivation for recovery, increase retention in treatment, and lower the risks of relapse. That is why later this month, September 23-24, 2017, Beach House Center for Recovery will pilot a monthly weekend program for families of clients currently in treatment with us, and we’re currently welcoming eligible participants.

The aim of this new offering is to strengthen and equip our families for the work of long-term recovery, by connecting them with a larger therapeutic and recovery community in which to find support, encouragement and tools for coping. On that note, below is everything you need to know regarding our Family Weekend Program (and we hope you’ll consider taking part):

new family program weekend.

Who is eligible to attend the Family Weekend Program?

Any family member(s)—whether local to South Florida or from out of state—who is serious about supporting their loved one’s recovery is eligible to participate, following detox and on the basis of referral by their loved one’s primary therapist. As a general rule, up to two family members per client are eligible to attend. Usually we require that participants be at least 18 years of age.

Who will lead the weekend program?

Vice President of Clinical and Medical Services Anna Ciulla will lead the program. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Anna has more than 20 years of experience in the field of substance use and co-occurring disorders, where she takes a solution-focused, strength-based, clinical approach to her work with clients and families. Anna will be joined by a licensed family therapist and/or your loved one’s primary therapist at various intervals throughout the weekend.

When will the program take place?

The dates for this year’s Family Program are as follows:

  • September 23-24
  • October 21-22
  • November 18-19
  • December 9-10

What’s the format of the program?

The Family Program runs both Saturday and Sunday, over the course of one full weekend per month.

Over the course of two full days, participants will:

  • Learn more about the disease of addiction and how it impacts family roles and dynamics
  • Become better acquainted with their loved one’s treatment goals and how they can support their loved one in early recovery
  • Together with their loved one, participate in group and individual therapies with a licensed family therapist and/or the client’s primary therapist, in order to learn healthier interpersonal and communication skills and enact positive core change
  • Get engaged with family support groups and resources available to them

Will we get to interact with our loved one?

Yes. The Sunday portion of the program is for clients and their families.
