Beach House Center for Recovery’s new executive chairman, Governor Chris Christie, will open this year’s Moments of Change conference (October 1-4) with a keynote speech that addresses the U.S. opiate crisis, including the urgently needed federal policies that can save more lives from addiction and overdose in 2018 and beyond.
The annual event (Moments of Change) is a respected national platform for networking and education among addiction and behavioral health experts from around the country, who will again convene in Palm Beach, Florida—our own backyard and a leading recovery hub nationwide—to share and explore the latest discoveries and innovations in mental healthcare.
In his talk, titled “Opioid Epidemic: The Origins, Our Failures and Hope for the Future,” Governor Christie will discuss the full scope of prescription painkiller addiction in this country— an urgent public health crisis that is devastating families and communities across the United States—and will lay out key policy solutions to the growing epidemic. (For related information, see Governor Christie’s response to the latest overdose figures.)
Governor Christie is a former United States Attorney and served as the 55th Governor of New Jersey from 2010 to 2018. During his governorship, he was appointed to chair the Presidential Commission on the Opioid Epidemic and Drug Abuse. Christie became an ABC News contributor in 2018 after leaving office, and joined Beach House Center for Recovery as Executive Chairman last month.
Our Past and Present Involvement in Moments of Change
In addition to Governor Christie’s contributions as a keynote speaker, Beach House Center for Recovery will be hosting an exhibit booth and sending 12-15 of its own staff to take part in the event.
Business Development Manager JD Page is helping to organize those efforts for a second consecutive year. He emphasized why Beach House Center for Recovery is participating in Moments of Change, citing the added value to the community that our participation brings. (Learn how Beach House Center for Recovery was involved in last year’s Moments of Change.)
“Conferences like Moments of Change provide a platform where the treatment community can come together to showcase advancements, devise solutions, and spearhead change,” Page said. It also gives people an opportunity to be educated and perhaps even change their own views and perceptions.”
