Our people belong to the three-part, Beach House formula for freedom from addiction (people, purpose and passion). That means that our clients receive care from only the most highly trained and experienced therapists well grounded in evidence-based treatment practices. Our therapists are not just good at what they do and highly accredited and certified. Our therapists are also passionate about what they do and consider it only a great honor and joy to help you find freedom from a drug and/or alcohol addiction. “People” — the right people — come first in the Beach House formula for freedom from drug or alcohol addictions. We firmly believe that the right people will help you unlock your own life purpose and passion, so that you can be liberated from the grip of substance abuse. That’s also why we’ve spent so much time and energy building a team whose purpose and passion are contagious, and whose experience in the field of addiction and recovery is unrivaled. And we want you to meet them:

Barnell Philips, MD
Psychiatrist, Medical Director
Dr. Phillips is a board-certified psychiatrist dedicated to the evidence-based treatment of psychiatric and substance use disorders. Originally from Miami, Florida, he began his medical career at Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He completed his internship and general psychiatry residency in 2005 at the combined training program of the University of Maryland Medical System and Sheppard Pratt Hospital System in Baltimore, Maryland, where he subsequently completed child and adolescent fellowship training in 2007. Dr. Phillips qualified for ABPN general board certification in 2010.
Dr. Phillips uses a simple maxim inherited from an early training supervisor as a guiding principle for his practice: “In psychiatry, quality matters most.” Excellent training at a residency program that affords its trainees the opportunity to diagnose and treat patients from all walks of life has shaped his focus on quality. As a result, Dr. Phillips is comfortable assessing patients from diverse settings, having cultivated extensive experience in numerous capacities—as a consultant to two general hospital systems and a college mental health center, as an outpatient psychiatrist treating co-occurring disorders (CODs) in active duty military personnel, as a medical director for a crisis stabilization unit, and, as an inpatient hospital provider treating patients diagnosed with chronic and severe mental illnesses and CODs.
